Apply for ANY and ALL scholarships your junior and senior high school year, but be wise. There are so many of the smaller scholarships, you could get burned out. Typically, the college to which you are applying has the best options for getting the larger scholarships. You do not have to be financially destitute either to get scholarships. Consider out-of-state colleges for sure. They are definitely options now a days and with scholarships they are sometimes less expensive than some in-state colleges.

Starting in your Junior year of high school, begin researching your favorite colleges you would like to attend or start researching them by the degrees/ coursework they offer. Be sure to get their 6 digit federal school code. You’ll need these when your parents fill out the FAFSA.

Keep a college folder that has additional folders titled: Accomplishments/ Awards, Colleges, Financial Aid, Grades/ Scores, Volunteering, Recommendations etc. and file appropriately throughout your high school years.
